Do you like to have FUN? Then I may be the perfect dog for you! I'm a party animal who loves to run and play. I'm friendly to people (big and small) and to other dogs. I already know how to sit for treats and have good manners out on the trail too. And I LOVE splashing and swimming in the lake! All I want is to please you, so my ideal forever home will give me the training and structure I need to succeed. Good times guaranteed!

Livvy - URGENT foster home needed
9/3/2008 - Please help Livvy, rescued from euthanasia from Town Lake Animal Center, and now homeless again due to foreclosure on her foster mom's rental home.
Bored? Tired of your treadmill? Looking for a new hobby? Boy, do we have the dog for you! Meet Livvy, 2 years young, very smart and eager to please, but most of all a born athlete. Get out of your daily rut and join an agility group with this quick-to-learn power dog!
Don't like workouts, but have a bunch of livestock to keep in check? Livvy may be able to help you with that as well, as she has strong herding instincts that need to be channeled properly! Keep Livvy mentally and physically engaged and she'll be your best friend for life! She would do best as an only dog (she does ok with some dogs) and without cats or kids - Livvy just craves your undivided attention; no wonder after the hard life she's had. First, the stress of the local shelter - nothing to do around there!! Austin Pets Alive! rescued her from euthanasia there and put her in a foster home, then her foster-mom lost her rented home due to a foreclosure - yes, even dogs get affected by these difficult times ! So, please - help homeless Livvy TODAY!
A very special person came forward to help APA save Livvy a second time, but this is a very short-term placment where Livvy will not get the individual attention she needs and deserves. Livvy is safe for now, but she needs a real home by the end of the week. If you are interested in Livvy, email adopt@austinpetsalive.org or call 512-961-6519.
4/21/2008 UPDATE: Austin Pets Alive! and CNC Rescue have joined together to start an off-site adoption program for long-stay dogs at Town Lake Animal Center. Livvy will be the first dog in this special program. Because of her short deadline, APA has taken Livvy into one of their foster homes. Livvy is doing great there and is even getting along well with other dogs and interacting well with children. She will go to an adoption event at a local Petco or Petsmart daily until a permanent home is found.
4/14/2008 UPDATE: Livvy is having a hard time at the shelter. Her behavior is starting to deteriorate. Staff have given her a deadline of April 22 to find a home. Livvy is very responsive to strong leadership and learns quickly. She will need help learning not to be too bossy towards other dogs, and to share her treats and toys nicely. She would do best as an only dog in a home with no young children. Low cost training options will be available for Livvy.

Nico - Available
Don't be
fooled by my macho good looks. I'm a mellow fellow
with impeccable manners and a love for long trail
runs. My other interests include blowing bubbles in
chest-high water, being polite to every animal I
encounter and hanging out with humans who appreciate
what a well-behaved boy I am. Please give me the
loving, lifelong home I deserve.
Note: Nico was adopted and returned when his adopters
discovered they were allergic to him. They had
nothing but good things to say about this charming,
playful boy.

Zeke
The wonderful thing about tiggers is tiggers are wonderful things! In addition to my glamorous tiger stripes, I have many excellent qualities that make me a wonderful canine companion. First of all, I'm very obedient. Combine my eagerness to please with my obvious athletic skills, and I'm a great candidate for fun dog-human sports like agility. I'm also extremely playful, affectionate with people, and very friendly with other dogs. But wait, there's more. The most wonderful thing about tiggers is: I want to be the one for you!

Max
Max is a funny, friendly, energetic boy who loves walks, treats and most of all playing with other dogs. His smart, sweet face always draws a smile -- and so does the sight of his long ears flapping in the breeze as he runs toward you. Max is also reported to do well with children. This gem in the rough will steal your heart if you spend enough time with him.

Cricket- Adopted 8/24/2008
If you want a calm, quiet companion, then Cricket's your girl. She walks wonderfully on a leash, though her shyness means she's still somewhat scared of new situations. Cricket is gentle and affectionate with humans, and seems very tolerant of other animals, including cats.

Ricky - Adopted 8/24/2008
The nicest policemen brought me here after my people moved away and forgot to take me. Now I'm hoping for a forever home with toys and maybe a dog pal. I really love to play fetch, and I like just about every dog I meet. I even seem fairly tolerant of cats. I know sit and I'm learning down; plus I try hard to be a good boy on leash. Please take me home and don't forget about me--I promise you will be the center of my whole world.

Nessa - Adopted 8/2008
How Nessa has remained more than one day at the shelter is beyond us. She's a favorite of the staff and volunteers. She's just learning to walk on the leash and likes to make it her chew toy. But once in the play areas, she's playful, gentle, and can't wait to play fetch. This blonde & white beauty is just waiting for her for her forever family to come meet her. Once you do, you'll be hooked.

Fifi - Adopted
Fifi is a beautiful blonde who loves lots of exercise and never misses an opportunity to show off her aquatic skills by splashing around joyfully in water. She is perfectly polite on a leash, interacts well with other canines and thinks belly rubs are blissful. As a healthy one-year-old, Fifi has many years of love to give her forever family. Fifi would be happiest with lots of play time with other dogs.

Penny - Adopted
Save Penny, a 3-year-old boxer/pit bull mix.
Penny is a pretty, petite girl who has had the bad luck of going to homes that weren’t right for her. Her first adopter had her for all of four hours before finding out he couldn’t keep a dog and bringing her to Town Lake Animal Center. Her second family returned her when she didn’t get along with their cat. Now she must find a new home -- and soon -- because TLAC doesn't have room to keep her. Aside from cats, Penny is a well-mannered, friendly girl. She is excellent on a leash and good with other dogs. When she’s out walking on Lady Bird Lake trail, she wants to say hello to every person she passes. She’s a smart girl who is alert to people’s wishes. She is housebroken, knows “sit” and can catch a ball in mid-air. When the right home finds Penny, she will fill it with fun and love.
Penny may also be fostered if you don’t have room for another permanent dog. Email PennyATtownlakedogsDOTcom for more information.

Scully - Adopted 7/26/2008
Scully is nonstop fun and excitement. This go-go girl is always up for some play time, even on the hot summer days. Scully loves, loves, loves playing in the water. You can entertain yourself for hours throwing her toys in the pool and watching her retrieve them one by one. She will even fish treats off the bottom of the pool, plunging her whole head underwater. If you are an active and fun-loving person who loves water sports, then this exuberant young pit may be the perfect dog for you. And don’t let her barking fool you, Scully plays well with most other dogs.

Jasmine - ADOPTED 5/28/2008
Jasmine was looking for scraps of food in a restaurant parking lot when she was found and brought to the shelter for the 9th time. Jasmine is so sweet, affectionate and gentle, the staff decided to give her a chance in the adoption program even though she is older. But it’s hard for even a very special older girl to get adopted when there are cute puppies all around. Jasmine is heart-worm positive, and a recent X-ray found that she has hip dysplasia and arthritis (making a concrete-floored kennel at the shelter hard on her). The staff doesn’t think it’s right to keep her at the shelter much longer because it’s not very comfortable for her, so she needs a special home by 5 p.m. May 30.

Tate - ADOPTED 5/16/2008!!!
Tate A504797 • 2–3-yr-old • Male • Labrador Retriever • Pen 241 • Arrived 28-Mar-2008
5/16/2008. Tate was adopted and his new adopter can't say enough good things about him. He is doing great with other dogs of all sizes, adults, kids, and lots of new situations.
We had been told by staff that Tate had "pressure" bitten a volunteer and staffer and needed to find a home within the week. They later realized that the bites had broken skin, so Tate underwent a 10-day rabies observation. He is now available to an approved rescue group with an experienced foster home available. While this behavior is highly undesirable, it does not mean that Tate is a "bad" dog. He is a dog that has reacted very badly to confinement at the shelter. It happens sometimes where a dog starts out like Tate nice and gentle and a month later is very hard to manage. It was particularly bad for Tate because he was ill and in an area of the shelter where the dogs don't get to leave their pens for several weeks. His frustration built to a level where he started to act very badly. With proper professional intervention, and plenty of exercise and discipline, Tate may become a wonderful pet. Professional behavior modification will likely be requirements for any interested rescue. Tate's professional evaluation went very very well and he has been behaving well, but assume he will need further training. Low cost training options will be made available. Email Tate@townlakedogs.com for more information. Tate's deadline is 5 pm Sunday, May 18th.

Arlo - ADOPTED 4/6/2008!

Arlo was at the shelter for almost 2 months, and the stress was just too much for him. Poor Arlo got very anxious and barked when he was cooped up in a cage all day, and he started being alternately fearful or aggressive towards the vet staff. The staff believed it was not fair to keep Arlo at the shelter when he was so stressed there. So they gave Arlo a one week deadline to find a rescue group to foster him. When he was feeling secure, Arlo was a delightfully different dog. Arlo was affectionate, loved walks, did well on a leash (he was a regular on the hike and bike trail) and would happily plop down beside you for a break -- perhaps keeping one paw on you, just to make sure you were still there. He loved treats, but most of all, he adored being with his own special person. Arlo got his first miracle when a TLAC volunteer stepped forward to save him by providing Arlo a temporary foster home. The dog experts at Lee Mannix evaluated Arlo and they believed his negative behavior was the result of extreme insecurity. They believed he had a lot of potential if someone would be willing to be patient and put in the work it would take to help him learn confidence and appropriate reactions to frightening or stressful situations. So there was hope for Arlo if we could find the right person. Well another miracle happened. Arlo was going to Taurus Training and Daycare every day. He did so well there that one of the staff members fell in love with him! Arlo will now have a permanent home where he can be with his special person every day and get all the training he needs to be the wonderful dog he was meant to be.
